The Maria Cecília Souto Vidigal Foundation (FMCSV) in Botucatu had a partnership with the Regional Child Abuse Registration Center (Crami) for the development of a Municipal Social Project called in English "Promotion of Child Development in Botucatu – Integrating to Optimize” (“Promoção do Desenvolvimento Infantil no Município de Botucatu – Integrar para Otimizar”). The fact that the city has a university hospital for care of pregnant women at risk was one of the reasons for the city to be selected by FMCSV for the development of the Social Project. The Agreement was signed on January 15, 2010. Botucatu, a city in the central region of São Paulo state, located 235 km from the capital, has other positive points: it has an important role in the encouragement of breastfeeding and has a high rate of normal deliveries, which reduces the risks for mother and child.
The consultations and prenatal tests performed in Botucatu include, in addition to monitoring for safe delivery, an assessment of the socioeconomic status of the mother, addressing, for example, the amount of support received from the baby's father. This assistance is key for the creation of a bond with the child and influences the child’s development.
