PARTNERSHIPS AND ASSOCIATIONS

Whenever possible, FMCSV prefers to work in partnership, adding its own experiences to those of other organizations.

The coming together of knowledge and the ability to work broadens the scope and the impact of actions, contributing to the fulfillment of the mission to generate and disseminate knowledge for the full development of the child.

All social projects that the Foundation develops in the cities and in the metropolitan region are conducted in partnership with local organizations and local governments.

In addition to these partnerships, agreements have been made with the World Bank, the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), the Research Foundation of São Paulo State (FAPESP), the Medical College Foundation of São Paulo University of São Paulo (FFM-USP) and the Offord Center for Child Studies in Canada.

FMCSV also seeks to associate itself with representative entities in order to keep in touch with its peers, share experiences and help in the construction of an institutional environment that facilitates and promotes the activities of foundations.

FMCSV was the first Brazilian foundation to be accepted as a member of the European Foundation Centre (EFC). It is also associated to the Council on Foundations (COF), the North American entity that comprises the largest number of foundations in the world.

The partnership between FMCSV and the World Bank resulted in the publication, in Brazil, of two important books on child development: "From Early Child Development to Human Development" (Do Desenvolvimento da Primeira Infância ao Desenvolvimento Humano) and "Early Childhood Development, from Assessment to Action." (Desenvolvimento da Primeira Infância, da Avaliação à Ação). Both were organized by pediatrician Mary Young at the time in charge of the Early Childhood programs of the World Bank. Through the partnership, the translation and publication rights were granted to FMCSV, which translated the books into Portuguese, printed 2,000 copies of each and distributed free of charge to professionals who deal with Early Childhood and to the libraries of all Medical, Nursing, Psychology and Child Education colleges in São Paulo. In addition to granting the original text, the World Bank distributed the books in Portugal, in Portuguese-speaking African countries and in East Timor. CONASS

The National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), which comprises the Health secretaries of all Brazilian states and the Federal District, invited FMCSV to make a technical review of the articles that comprise the Early Childhood Development Encyclopedia. This is a free online encyclopedia that offers articles on the main topics related to child development and it was originally produced by the Center of Excellence for Early Childhood Development of Canada. The agreement was signed in 2010. Since then, 39 topics of the encyclopedia have been translated into Portuguese. Research Support Foundation of São Paulo (Fapesp)

FMCSV's partnership with the Foundation for Research Support of São Paulo (Fapesp) enabled the creation of an exclusive funding line for research aimed at Early Childhood practices.The Foundation estimates that the generation of knowledge requires involvement in research activities. After noticing that there was a lack of this type of work for child development in Brazil, it sought the largest development agency in this area in the country and proposed the creation of a project to encourage researchers interested in the subject. The agreement between the two sides was closed in October 2010 and a credit line was established. The first bid notice for those interested was released in March 2011. Medical College Foundation of São Paulo University (FFM-USP)

FMCSV's partnership with the Das Clínicas Hospital (HC) has existed since its incorporation because its laboratories always researched and carried out diagnoses for patients treated by HC. Therefore, when deciding to outsource the management and operation of its hematology structure, it naturally turned to HC. In 2006, the partnership was signed with FFM-USP, which transferred the management of the laboratories to the Hematology Service of the Central Institute of the Das Clínicas Hospital. FMCSV continues to be in charge of equipping the labs and keeping up their infrastructure. Offord Centre for Child Studies/Canada

One of the biggest challenges in the area of child development is to identify the evolution stage of young children. Experts agree that a child’s maturity level can only be assessed from five years onward. In order to make this assessment, the Offord Centre for Child Studies has created a methodology that can identify the degree of maturity of a child about to enter school at 5 years of age - this is the Early Development Instrument (EDI). The FMCSV made an agreement with the Canadian entity to adapt this methodology to Brazil, apply the system and disseminate the results. The method is being put into place in two stages in the municipalities where the Foundation operates. [sugestão: linkar para a página de Projetos Sociais]. In the first stage, kicked off in 2011, the assessment was made with five year olds, therefore, outside the target audience (0 to 3). In a second stage, the children currently served in our projects will be evaluated when they reach 5 years of age. The idea is to compare the results of both tests to assess the impact of the Foundation’s programs.
